Square or Sloped Glazing Beads: What to Mark on a Window RFQ

Two windows can look similar across a room while the edge beside the glass differs. Use a marked section to tell bidders which detail to quote.

Catalogue detail comparing two glazing bead face shapes beside the glass

If the appearance of the glass edge matters, specify the glazing bead on a marked section and ask the supplier to confirm it with the proposed glass package. A room photograph can communicate the look you want. It cannot identify the part to order.

What does “square or sloped” mean on a quotation?

In the CS120 catalogue illustration shown above, the square option has a flat ledge with a distinct step beside the glass. The sloped option presents an angled face toward the glass. These are descriptions of the visible shape. Neither label gives the glass thickness, a part number or a performance rating.

Give the architect and fabricator the same reference

Start with one elevation or interior photograph. Mark the opening ID and the side from which the edge will be seen. Then attach a section through that edge and circle the intended face. If several openings must match, list their IDs together. This lets a bidder flag an exception, such as a fixed light proposed with a different detail from an adjacent opening sash.

Ask for a part reference before comparing prices

For aluminum profile extrusions, request the bead reference, matching frame or sash reference and the glazing build-up on which the quote is based. Ask which gaskets or other components are included and who checks compatibility. For fabricated windows, request the corresponding detail on the supplier's approval drawing instead of assuming the brochure illustration is the order specification.

For example, a quote line could read: W-04 and W-05; room-side square face preferred; proposed section reference to be returned by bidder; glass schedule revision B; finish sample pending. If the bidder can only propose a sloped face, ask for the alternative as a separate line. The buyer can then see exactly what needs design approval.

Decide what a sample approval covers

If appearance is critical, request a representative corner or cut sample and view it from the intended side. Record the accepted reference and finish alongside the drawing revision. Ask for separate evidence for any project performance requirement; visual approval alone does not answer that question.

Send the details needed for a proposal

Use Products to explore CIMU's catalogue and Discuss your project below to send the marked detail. Include the project location, opening quantities and dimensions, glass schedule, performance requirements, finish, profiles-only or fabricated supply scope and destination port. CIMU can discuss the proposed configuration; availability and the final scope need confirmation for the order.

Frequently asked questions

Can a room photo identify the bead?

Use it as an appearance reference. Ask the supplier to identify the actual bead on a dimensioned section.

Can the two options be swapped after ordering?

Ask for written confirmation for the named frame, glass and gaskets before substituting a part.

What if the glass schedule changes?

Return the revised schedule to the bidder and request confirmation of the bead reference and price before approval.
