Aluminum Profiles or Complete Windows? Define the Supply Scope Before Requesting a Quote

Tell suppliers whether you need profile lengths, fabricated components or assembled windows, then identify who supplies the remaining parts and completes the work.

If you are asking for aluminum profiles for windows and doors, start by naming what you want delivered: profile lengths, prepared components or assembled window units. These are different enquiry scopes. A clear request identifies what is included, what remains to be done and who is responsible for each remaining step.

The cover is a window application visual from CIMU's image library. It illustrates an end-use setting, not evidence of a particular installed project, certification or quoted supply package.

Option 1: Profile lengths

For a profile-supply enquiry, identify the required section or drawing, material requirements, finish, requested lengths and quantity units. State whether you need the supplier to quote only the profiles or additional components.

Do not assume that a profile price includes cutting to your window dimensions, machining, seals, glazing, hardware or assembly. Ask the supplier to confirm inclusions and exclusions. Label an application sketch as a starting point if it is not an approved production drawing.

Option 2: Fabricated components

Some enquiries concern parts that have already been cut or otherwise prepared. The Aluminum Extruders Council describes cutting, punching, machining and assembly among the stages used to turn extrusions into functional components. Which operations are included in a particular quotation must still be agreed.

For aluminum profile extrusions supplied as prepared parts, send the relevant part drawings and revisions. Identify the quantity of each part and the processing you want quoted. Keep unconfirmed dimensions or interfaces visible instead of allowing them to become assumptions.

Option 3: Assembled window units

For assembled windows, supply the window schedule and identify the requested configuration for each opening. State the dimensions, opening arrangement, finish requirements and the glazing and hardware scope you expect the proposal to address.

The word complete can still leave questions. Ask whether glazing is included and fitted, which accessories are included, and whether assembly or adjustment remains at the destination. Installation, site measurements and associated building work should be stated separately rather than assumed to form part of product supply.

Write a responsibility list

For each item, record whether it is supplied by the quoted supplier, provided by another party or still to be confirmed. Include:

  • Profiles and specified processing.
  • Seals, connectors and hardware.
  • Glazing and glazing installation.
  • Assembly and identification of finished units.
  • Packaging and delivery scope.
  • Site measurement, installation and final adjustment.
  • Drawings, instructions and required performance evidence.

This is a request for clarity, not a claim that one company provides every service. Confirm responsibilities with the actual parties to the order.

Match quantity units to the deliverable

A request for lengths of aluminum extrusions and a request for finished windows should not be compared as if they describe the same deliverable. Identify the quantity basis on every line. If a quotation uses a different basis, ask for the relationship to be made explicit.

List the number of requested windows against each schedule reference, or the required lengths and counts against each profile reference. Do not silently convert between pieces, weight, length and finished openings.

Prepare a useful enquiry package

Send a consistent set of documents: intended supply scope, current drawings, quantity schedule, finish requirements, destination and requested timing. Flag unknowns so the supplier can ask targeted questions.

When evaluating an aluminum profiles manufacturer or supplier, confirm that the proposed scope matches your purchasing need. An enquiry for aluminium profiles is not automatically an enquiry for a finished window system. A picture of a finished window does not establish which components a quotation includes.

Request a configuration-specific proposal

Use CIMU's Contact page to send your project location, intended supply scope, drawing or product references, quantities and required timing. Ask which items can be proposed and what information is still needed. Agree a method for sharing drawings if the contact channel does not support attachments.

A useful opening message is: We require [profile lengths / prepared components / assembled windows] for these references. Please confirm the proposed inclusions, exclusions, quantity basis and information needed for a quotation.

Availability, minimum order quantities, lead times, compatibility and supporting evidence must be confirmed for the particular enquiry. This guide does not promise a fixed price, delivery period, certification or capability.

Frequently asked questions

Does an aluminum profile quote include a complete window?

Do not assume so. Ask for the exact deliverables and exclusions, including processing, glazing, hardware and assembly.

What should I send for fabricated profile parts?

Provide current part drawings, item references, quantities and the processing you want quoted. Identify unconfirmed dimensions and interfaces.

Does complete window supply include installation?

Only if installation is explicitly included in the agreed scope. Clarify measurement, installation and adjustment responsibilities separately.

What information helps CIMU assess an enquiry?

Send your project location, supply scope, product or drawing references, quantities, finish requirements and timing. Confirm the available proposal for your configuration.
